Practical Nursing Program

Program Description

The Practical Nursing Program at Mid-Del Technology Center is an 11-month, full-time, day only adult practical nursing program.  Students are admitted into the program annually in August and complete the program in June the following year.  The program consists of 1,511 hours, which includes the prerequisite courses’ hours.  Prerequisite course requirements are Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, both of which are offered online at MDTC (information sheet attached), but may be taken at another career and technology center or college/university.  All applicants are required to have current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Oklahoma.  Classroom instruction is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 2:30pm, and clinical rotations are usually scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30am – 2:30pm, as required.  Clinical courses include long-term care, acute medical/surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, and role transition.  A skills lab is provided to learn basic nursing, pharmacology, and intravenous therapy skills.  Upon successful skills demonstrations in the skills lab at school, students are given opportunities to implement nursing skills in the clinical settings under a clinical instructor’s supervision.
