MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (June 29, 2023) – Oklahoma Careertech recently awarded $110,000 in lottery funds to the Mid-Del Tech Center to invest in an electric vehicle and electric vehicle training equipment.

Mid-Del Tech supports Oklahoma’s growing need for hands-on EV technology training. “It is critical we expose our current students to this quickly emerging technology and properly train them as EVs are consistently becoming more popular,” said John Day, Director of Instruction at MDTC.

The awarded funds will purchase a Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle, an Alignment Certification Kit, and the necessary tools to teach electric vehicle maintenance. “It’s important that we’re keeping up with industry trends,” said Zach Hope, MDTC Auto Service Technician Instructor. “The industry is electrifying.”

The vehicle and equipment will give MDTC’s full-time program students the hands-on training they need as they join the automotive service workforce. While also allowing MDTC to offer short-term adult courses and customized workforce training to current automotive service employees.

“This allows us to assist our industry partners in training their incumbent workforce, particularly those that don’t have access to manufacturer-specific training,” said John Day.

MDTC plans to continue expanding its EV training after implementing the grant. “We would like to add more electric vehicles to our program,” said Zach Hope. “We want our students ready for what they’ll be working on when they join the automotive workforce.”
