At Mid-Del Technology Center, we believe that real-world experience is one of the most powerful tools in education. Our Work-Based Learning initiatives connect students with industry partners who are committed to shaping the next generation of professionals. One of those standout partners is Davis Paint and Collision Auto Center.
We recently took a tour of the Midwest City facility with Russ Davis. He gave us insight into the company’s investment in student interns—and the results speak for themselves.
“Soft skills are incredibly important,” said Davis, “but a lot of people aren’t showing up with those skills.”
That’s why the team at Davis Collision has created a mentorship program that emphasizes both personal and professional development. Interns start with basic responsibilities like sweeping the shop floor or taking out the trash. As they prove their reliability and work ethic, they earn the opportunity to shadow body technicians and learn hands-on repair skills.
Davis Paint and Collision isn’t just looking for people who know how to fix a car—they’re looking for professionals who take pride in customer service, understand the value of hard work, and are eager to grow. According to Davis, personality and professionalism are just as important as technical skills.
“We’re building our own pipeline,” Davis explained. “We want people who show up, work hard, and fit the culture. In return, they get a career that pays well and offers long-term opportunity.”
It’s not just what happens in the repair bays that matters. Davis Paint and Collision also needs office staff—people who can handle customer service, order parts, and keep operations running smoothly. The shop is a place where a wide range of skills and talents come together to keep customers happy and cars on the road.
One of the most inspiring stories comes from Dawson, an Auto Collision program graduate.
Dawson got his start like most interns—cleaning up the shop and handling daily chores. But he didn’t stop there. He proved himself and earned the chance to work directly with one of the company’s veteran technicians. Now, he’s learning advanced techniques and becoming exactly the kind of technician Davis Collision wants on their team.
“I didn’t really like school,” Dawson shared, “but I always loved working on cars. The first time I picked up a sander, I just knew—that’s what I wanted to do.”
Dawson credits Mid-Del Tech with teaching him how to be a professional. He describes the school as a second home, a place where he found confidence, direction, and a clear path toward a career he loves.
At Mid-Del Tech, we’re proud to work alongside businesses like Davis Paint & Collision Auto Center. Together, we’re not just teaching students how to do a job—we’re helping them build a future.
